Q.  How do we reserve a date?

      A.  Once you are sure about the dates you want we will mail, fax or e-mail a lease to you.  We require a 50% deposit and a signed copy of the lease to reserve the week.  However, reservations made during the prior calendar year may be held with a 25% deposit, with the second 25% due on January 15th.  All balances, plus a fully refundable damage deposit, will be due 30 days prior to check-in.   We are sorry but we do not accept credit cards or online payments at this time.  We do accept personal checks (drawn on a U.S. bank).

For last minute rentals (i.e., less than two weeks away) we will require a money order or cash for the full amount including the damage deposit.

Q.  How old do we need to be to rent this house?

      A.  We only rent to families and mature adult groups.  In addition, the minimum age to contract with us is 25.  We will not rent for after-prom groups, or college party groups or similar party groups under any circumstances.  Any attempt to circumvent this rule (i.e., renting for someone else) will result in immediate eviction and forfeiture of rent.

Q.  Do you allow pets?

      A.  We are sorry, but pets are not permitted at all.  Because we advertise the home as pet-free, and people with allergies rely on us to keep it that way, we cannot make any exceptions.

Q.  Is the house air conditioned?

      A.  Absolutely! We have central air conditioning.  There are three separately controlled zones:  two for the main house and one for the apartment.  The system was installed in 2003.  We also have 7 ceiling fans in the main house and 2 more in the apartment.

Q.   What do we need to bring with us?

      A.  You will need to bring your own food, paper goods, sheets and towels.  Or, if you prefer, there are linen rental services available on the island that deliver and pick-up.  We have provided pillows, comforters and mattress pads.  In both the main house and the apartment we have provided ample dishes, untensils, pots, pans and kitchen appliances. We also have provided some beach chairs and umbrellas in the shed, but feel free to bring your own if you like.

Q.  How close is the beach?

      A.  We are five houses to the beach access. There are no streets to cross.  There is a path through the dunes that is mostly boardwalked.  The path is mostly flat, but there is one hill.  The entire walk takes approximately 2-3 minutes and can be easily navigated even by children as young as two years old (the age of our son when we purchased the house).  Please note:  the beach tram does NOT run on our block...it is only for 9th Street and north where the lifeguarded beaches are too far from the houses to easily walk.

Q.  What is the beach like?

     A.  The beach here is natural and beautiful, and is larger than most.  We do not experience any of the erosion problems whatsoever.  From our beach, there is a spectacular view of the gently curving coastline all the way south to Harvey Cedars and north to the jetty at Barnegat Lighthouse.  Due to the low density of the housing on this part of the island, the beach never gets crowded here and is very peaceful and relaxing.

Q.  Is there a lifeguard station at the beach?

     A.   YES, there is a lifeguard station right at the end of our block.

Q.  Are beach badges required?

     A.  Beach badges are required from late June through Labor Day.  We are now providing 6 season beach badges to the main house and 3 to the apartment.  Children under 12 do not need badges and additional badges ($15/week or $7/week for seniors) if needed, may be purchased right on the beach.  We do require you to replace any lost badges as it is not possible for us to do so at changeover time.

Q.  Is there a back yard?

      A.  Yes.  There is a large back yard with white stones (typical of LBI) and is bordered by pine trees most of the way around.

Q.  What do we have to share with the other tenants?

      A.  Only the back yard, the washer/dryer and the beach items in the shed are shared.  Everything else is separate.  Each unit has its own: deck areas, gas grill, picnic tables, outdoor shower, parking area, clothes line.  The central air system has three entirely separate zones:  two for the main house and one zone for the apartment.

Q.  Is there a cleaning service?

      A.  Yes.  We have a very reliable changeover cleaning service between all tenants.  We do also ask our tenants to leave the place reasonably clean as well, by emptying the refrigerator and taking out all trash, etc. prior to check-out.

Q.  What is the neighborhood like?

      A.  This is a quiet and very attractive family neighboorhood with few rental houses.  There are lots of children, and the people here are friendly and welcoming--we have even had past tenants participate in the annual block party!

Q.  Are there things to do in the area besides go to the beach?

      A.  Yes.  Barnegat Lighthouse and Viking Village are both within walking distance.  The town has restaurants and shops and its own little museum.  For information on these and much much more, please visit our General Information, Links and Attractions and our new LBI Current Events web pages.

Q.  Where exactly are you located?

     A.  We are approximately mid-block on 15th street: see the map below for more detail.

Directions to the House

Take the Garden State Parkway to exit 63 (Long Beach Island / Manahawkin) towards Route 72 East (or pick up Route 72 East further inland in New Jersey.)

Take Route 72 East to the very end (about 5 miles), and turn left onto Long Beach Boulevard.

Proceed north along Long Beach Boulevard approximately 7 miles (passing through the towns of Surf City, North Beach, Harvey Cedars and Loveladies) when you will reach Barnegat Light.

The streets will then be numbered in descending order.  Turn right onto 15th Street and the house is number 7 on your right.

Please note:  we do not rent to prom groups or similar party groups (spring break, etc.) in either the main house or the apartment.  For the comfort of our guests, we also do not allow pets and smoking indoors is strictly prohibited.
